Changes in Media File Link
-
I just realized WordPress.com changed how they view media link. In a way I don’t like. In old version when you click picture with media link enabled, it show ONLY original image (jpg or png) with black border (if portrait) browser default.
Current version, you show a white page with my site name, promoting iOS/Android app and some other button. I don’t mind if you try to show this image at WordPress.com. This your platform after all, you can do whatever you want. But here is the thing, while it still show original picture (file size and resolution) the view is fix scaled. THIS IS BAD DECISION. I can’t zoom with usual single click to show original resolution.
Now, there is a lot DUMB people out there that PROBABLY DIDN’T REALIZE media file link actually show original. But because it show fix scaled image, some people maybe thinking it actually show lower resolution size of the image. People need to download and view it using their app in computer/smartphone to view actual resolution.
If WordPress.com insist to use this new kind viewer, please add option to view 100% scale of the image with single click. If not, I’m worry a lot of amateur photographer will run from your platform.

Well well half a day and still no answer. At least put a button to view at 100% scale. Another option is put information about file size and resolution at the bottom of image.

+1 from another user who’s hoping this gets fixed! (Thanks for responding in my thread, btw!)

Hello any staff want to reply to this problem?
Just a word of “Okay we’re going to talk with developer to see what we can do about it.”
Anything is okay. 24+ hours and not single word from staff and yet some other thread I saw they actually pretty active.

Hi there,
These image landing pages are now shown when anyone clicks an image set to display the media file on free sites, yes.
I’ll relay your feedback about this to our developers, but at present there are no plans to offer an option to disable this feature.
However, it can be removed by upgrading to any of our paid plans.

That is why I advice add zoom button to 100% scale. I’m not asking to remove the landing page.
Let say what if some amateur photographer want to show his new photo at full glory 6000 x 4000 pixel. But now it only able to view at scaled, even though actually it load original resolution.
Oh sure you could pinch zoom at smartphone. But for PC browser? Not many people know how to ctrl + (plus). Heh even now, people still confused with wordpress.com and wordpress.org. Sure there are some who cannot zoom without clear instruction.
Your developer probably never photograph or own DSLR. Some photo best viewed at original resolution. They must think in photographer perspective.

So why was my post deleted? It was valid criticism of the restrictions being placed on free account users and how they are gradually increasing. Silencing criticism is a regular thing here?

The comment was not related directly to the specific issue discussed here. If you have concerns over other issues, please open those separately.
As for the issue being raised here, we have passed that on to our developers as mentioned above.

My comment fully concerns that issue. The OP and I were wondering why a basic function as simple as clicking an image no longer takes the reader to the image isolated on a blank page, like it has been doing since over 10 years. We’re told the answer is that this simple functionality has now been restricted behind a paywall. Never mind all of the other restrictions and setbacks already imposed on free account holders, in addition to new ones being added over the years. Now this very simple feature is also taken away from us, and viewers instead get taken to an intermediate page that just advertises WordPress.
My comment echoed the above, and was entirely in response to the reasoning we were given for why free account users have to deal with this problem. If I had taken a screenshot of my deleted post, people would see how much of a false statement you’re making.

I still can’t zoom 100% today. Is it really hard to add zoom button? Oh I know the developer just lazy to implement.
