Changes in WP-admin bar?

My apologies if my questions have been addressed somewhere already, but I’ve looked and cannot find the answers.
After being absent from WP for just over a month, I’ve returned to find changes to the wp admin bar that make my experience a little difficult. The links in the dropdown menus no longer take me to what’s most important in my WP surfing. There is no longer a direct link to the WP homepage, which I used frequently. I now find myself having to scroll around on whatever page I’m reading, until I find a link to WP.com. Secondly, where has the ability to search blogs gone? I’m not referring to the tag search, I’m asking specifically about the search box that used to be in the admin bar. Why is this no longer available, and what are my options now? (Please don’t suggest using the tag search, because this does not accomplish what I used to be able to accomplish with the blog search box.)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ve found a rather ridiculous solution to my second issue regarding the search box, but all I can think is “Really??”. That’s the fix? The admin bar got screwed up with the recent changes and now my screen is too small? Are you kidding me? So every time I want to search blogs I have to zoom my screen out? Silly. Anyone know if there’s something (ie a permanent fix) that I’m missing? Is this something WP is working on? Have you ever seen so many question marks in one topic before?

The wordpress bar at the top of the page has all these functions. If you can’t see the dark grey bar then you may want to try another browser to see if it shows.

I’m using firefox if that’s any help.

Oh, I can see the grey bar, it’s just not the same as it was a month or so ago, and seems to be missing features that were accessible before…such as the direct link to the WP homepage. I’ve made zero changes in computer/browser/settings etc, and am wondering if it’s a result of the new formatting. And…basically just bitching that my admin bar experience isn’t near as pleasant as it used to be. I’m not thrilled with having to scroll around on someone’s post looking for WP homepage access, when a month ago, it was right there in the bar.
But thanks for your input Scott!

If you aren’t seeing the search box at the right end of the admin bar, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then take another look. It is there for me.

As far as the link to the .COM main page, I never even knew it was there since I never use the “my account” pulldown, only the “my blogs” pulldown.

Thanks, TSP…I’m saving the cache/cookies attempt as a last resort, simply because clearing both wreaks havoc on my backwoods low kbps net connection, and drives my kids nuts. I did have to sign back into WP when I returned from holidays, which in itself was a real treat because there was also no longer a login box available until I made my way to the WP homepage. As for direct access to the .com homepage, well, I guess I’ll just have to quit being so lazy and type it into the address bar.
Thanks to both of you for taking the time…

You can always login in by adding wp-login.php to the end of your main URL such as this.

TSP, thanks again. I’ve logged back in this morning, and there’s the search box.
