Changes not being saved – this is bad!!!

OK – I don’t know what is going on, but there is a major issue with whatever the latest revision is in saving things! I’m working off a laptop through the dashboard and I have been writing on a new page. At one point I had saved several updates and it was also autosaving, but then suddenly when I hit save at one point something crashed and everything I’d written (and it was a lot) was gone and the most recent autosave was from the day before! Then I managed to recreate everything and then some (saving very frequently). At one point, after adding another paragraph, I noticed an autosave two minutes prior, then I hit save and it said it saved, but showed the saved version as 10 minutes older than the autosave and everything I’d just typed was gone!!! Fortunately, it was still there in autosave, but there is obviously a major glitche and it is a bad one!!! The worst thing you can have happen when you just pour everything out onto ‘paper’ is then have it be gone – this needs to be fixed quick!!!

    Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble you’re having with the saved revisions. Are you writing in the new post editor at https://wordpress.com/post or in the classic editor at https://isaiah3021.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php ? The autosave feature works differently in the two editors, so I’ll need to know which one you were using.

Also, did you have the editor open just in one browser window/tab or in multiple windows/tabs?

I am using the classic editor though the dashboard on my site (don’t like the new one) and I was working on a new page, not a post. I only had it open in one window in my browser.

Thanks for explaining that. Can you give me a link to the page you were working on so I can take a closer look at it for you? (You can tell me the title if it isn’t published yet, and I can look at the draft.)

Also, if you can share specific things that don’t work well for you in the new editor, I’d be happy to share that feedback with our team. Autosave works a bit differently in that new editor and could help avoid glitches like this — although I’ll certainly do what I can to investigate this issue in the classic editor!

It is a new page called “Robert’s Story” that at the moment is private. Don’t know what you can see of behind the scenes history, but I’ve written and added a lot since that happened.

I will have to work with the new editor again and remember what I didn’t like about it. Just tried it out and didn’t find it as easy as the old one, so went back to that way. I will try to work with it the next time and let you know.

    Thanks!

Thanks, I just looked at the revision history for that page and I don’t see anything to help explain why you experienced those glitches with the saved versions of the page. I’m very sorry about the trouble you had with that.

With the additions you made to that page, did you experience any more glitches like that?

Only the one I mentioned where I saved again a few minutes after an auto save and then the time post on the one I saved went backwards by about 10 minutes and I had to use the auto save version to recover.

Thanks for clarifying that. I have been testing and can’t reproduce that error, so it sounds like that may have been a glitch with the save that time. Can you let me know if it happens to you again? If I can find a pattern for when it happens I can continue investigating it for you.

OK – thanks for working on it. I am using the new editor now and so far so good. Can’t remember what it was that didn’t work well for me early on, but maybe it has been fixed.

    Appreciate the help!

Great! Let us know if the issue comes back for some reason.
