Changes to already purchased premium theme force me to purchase more.

I purchased the “Photographer” premium theme. It was already expensive enough, so I did not upgrade to the customizable version.

I carefully selected this theme for the default styles and features that came with the initial purchase, and designed my website frugally using the defaults purposefully. My site has been up for a couple months, has looked great, and I have developed something of a visual brand based on what I did with the site.

Now, suddenly, Organics and WordPress switched the default main masthead typeface from a classic sans-serif font to a florid, whimsical script, which is not the feel I wanted for my site at all. Support at Organics claim they were required to do this because the graphic representation of the theme in the WordPress index didn’t match the actual template.

But frankly here’s how it looks to a paying customer:

    • I pay for a premium theme and design my site frugally using the theme’s defaults so as not to pay more.
    • The theme creators change the defaults.
    • I am now required to pay additional fees to get back to something that was the most visible default setting in the original theme that I purchased.

Being required to pay more in order to have what I already paid for feels like a scheme to squeeze more money out of an existing customer.

Simply offering a second option for the original masthead font from default version of this premium theme would go such a long way with existing customers.

I now question whether or not to continue with this theme, or WordPress at all, wondering how often I will be forced into another paid upgrade, to keep my site looking the way I originally designed it.

I have flagged this for the staff so they will be sure to get you input.

I don’t know if there is a different theme the staff would be willing to swap with you or not.

    Thanks auxclass.

Actually, WordPress customer support responded to me privately and was very helpful resolving the siutation on an individual basis. The customer support from Organics, the theme producer, was snippy at first, until a second support person took over and tried to be more understanding. Organics, however could not come up with a way to make the situation any better.

WordPress support, on the other hand, was immediately helpful, understanding, and worked quickly toward a solution.

Good customer support goes a long way.

I’m going to leave this open for a few days for two reasons:
    • to report on the good customer support from WordPress, and
    • to make WordPress and Organics senior management aware of a problem that they may be able to resolve on a broader scale for their users.

    Thanks again, WordPress!

Glad it worked out well –

WordPress.COM has a whole department called “Theme Wranglers” and I think another Theme title – themes are modified to run at WordPress.COM so there are some differences between the Theme here and a theme with the same name that runs on a WordPress.ORG install

PS – I like the font now much better than the other one with the fancy stuff on it

I am now upgraded to be able to customize the CSS on my blog, simply to fix a design problem caused by a recent upgrade by Organic Themes.

I simply want to change the casual “Dancing Script” font of the page headline (site-title) back to the more stately “Oswald” that came with the theme when I purchased it. However, no attempt to customize the CSS is effecting this change. I reviewed the page source, and it appears the site title may load before the CSS does.

Has anyone made this customization, and can you share the CSS with me.

    Thanks.

I have flagged this to be moved to the CSS forum – someone there will help you
