Changes to blog post editor
-
Hi there,
Have there been any changes to the way in which blogs are written and edited on the web version of WordPress.com?
When I go in to create a new blog post it first displays an error refusing to correct, see screenshot:
It then refreshes and connects but it takes me to the WP backend style of editor, see screenshot:
Writing a new post: https://prnt.sc/ucybhn
Editing an existing post: https://prnt.sc/ucye69Is there any way to revert back to the original editor for editing and writing blog posts? The main reason we used WordPress.com is the editor was way more user friendly when writing and editing blog posts.
I know on the mobile app version you can revert back to the original editor instead of using the new block editor, but I can’t find any option to do so on the web.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The page you see at https://prnt.sc/ucye69 is still the classic editor, but it’s wrapped in a WordPress.com skin. This is something experimental we tried at one point that hasn’t been completely removed yet, and occasionally pops up on WordPress.com sites, and on Jetpack-connected sites like yours.
If you land on that screen, just go back to the main dashboard page at http://gilliantravis.co.uk/wp-admin, and you should see the default dashboard view again. Then go to Posts ->All Posts to edit your post.
If that doesn’t work, clear your browser cache and cookies.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I cleared my cache and it has cleaned up this issue, however, I don’t think I worded my question correctly.
The editor used to look something like this not too long ago:

Has this been discontinued and replaced with the full dashboard editor?
To me, the previous editor seemed a bit more lightweight, clear and user friendly in comparison to the WP dashboard style editor.
I just wondered if there was an option to return to this style of editor.
Thanks for the help!

The editor on WordPress.com has been changed to a different one, however, it’s not the one you’re using (from what I can see on your screenshots). You can read more about the change here:
Since your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, you’re free to install the Classic Editor plugin and keep using that with your site:

So there is no way to return to this style of editor?
The new WordPress Block Editor is just not doing it for me, doesn’t seem as easy to use.
It takes you off WordPress.com when you write new posts (when you click on the WordPress logo in the top right it takes you to your WP Dashboard and not back to WordPress.com).
For the average blogger who just uses text and images the amount of blocks and options can be overwhelming in comparison to the old style editor.
The older setup seemed to work way better and felt much more user friendly in terms of editing, writing and viewing posts all within the WordPress.com interface as opposed to the clunky WordPress dashboard.
I will have to try to get used to it.
Thanks

So there is no way to return to the old style of editor?
I am referring to https://en-support.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/image-2020-04-29-at-2.14.02-pm.png?w=1024The new block editor which replaces the old editor is just not doing it for me, it seems way harder to use for the average user.
It takes you off WordPress.com when you add or edit new posts, and when you click the WordPress logo in the top left it takes you to the WordPress dashboard rather than back to WordPress.com, would it not be better to take the user back to the platform they started on?
The amount of options and blocks available to use, for a simple blog post, seems overwhelming to the average user who may just want to use elements such as text and images.
The older setup seemed much more user friendly, with WordPress.com feeling like it was a lightweight alternative option to publishing blog posts without having to go through the full WP-Admin Dashboard.
I will have to get used to it, but it would be nice to have an option to return to this editor.
Thanks!

Hi there,
Yes, the editor that you have referenced, the classic WordPress.com editor, is being discontinued. I understand it will be an adjustment.
But, as mentioned you can still use the features of the classic editor through the classic editor block:
https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor
Here is our recent article explaining the move:
You can still visit the wp-admin dashboard (http://example.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and use the classic editor there:

We also have information on transitioning to the Block Editor, and Frequently Asked Questions.
Hope this helps.
