Changes to Image Widget

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have noticed that the Image Widget has been changed. Unfortunately, it has affected how my images are being displayed in the sidebar as part of the image is cut off. This occurs on every page and I don’t know what to do to make it right. Any ideas?

    I contacted the help desk about a week ago about this and haven’t heard back.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @vsimon22!

    I’m not very sure what you mean with “the Image Widget has been changed”, so let me ask you some questions to make sure I understand what you’re asking :)

    – The issue is with one of the images shown on the left sidebar of this page? https://athrillaweek.com/ or another one like this one? https://athrillaweek.com/about-this-blog/

    – Or is the issue related with your homepage ( https://athrillaweek.com/ ) and that the images of the authors (Annelie Wendeberg, Kim Stanley Robinson, etc. ) are not well aligned?

    Thanks for your reply, hope we can help you :)

    Hi alejandrovs-

    If you go to this page: https://athrillaweek.com/douglas-preston-and-lincoln-childs-pendergast-series/ and look at the left side bar, you will see that the images (like Nick’s Pics, etc.), along with text, is cut off on the right side. This is true for all the additional pages which you can find under the heading ‘Search for Authors’ on the main page.

    As for the image widget changing, it use to be that one could choose the alignment of the image; left, right or none. That option is now gone. If you tab on edit image, it will bring up a screen that has no choice for image alignment. However, under that screen there is a box labeled Image CSS Class and in the box is the word alignleft, which I assume came from my choosing the align left option before the changes. Obviously it is not aligning to the left.

  • Hi @vsimon22, thanks for noting this. I’ll check in with some people, but in the meantime, try adding this to your CSS. I think it will fix it for now:

    #secondary figure {
    	margin: 0 !important;
    	max-width: 100% !important;
    }

    Hi Supernovia-

    When I paste the coding that you gave me into the Image CSS, and then save it, all of the punctuation (#, !, {, etc.) disappears. Only the letters and numbers are left and that unfortunately doesn’t fix the problem.

  • Punctuation shouldn’t be disappearing (tested to confirm)… if you put it in like I have it here does it help?

  • And, if the punctuation is disappearing, we can troubleshoot that too, but let’s get the image issue cleared up first if possible.

    I copy directly from here and then paste it directly into the widget. The paste looks fine until I save it and then all of the punctuation disappears. The punctuation remains if I just update, but when I do the final save, they disappear.

    The punctuation also disappears if I write it in directly.

  • Do you mind if I add it for you?

  • Also, I’ve just filed a bug report for your theme as well.

    Sure, I don’t mind if you add it. Thanks.

  • OK. I’m using Chrome on Mac; when I copy and paste from the forum post, and save, the punctuation saves as expected. If you’d like to troubleshoot that further, let me know what browser you’re using. Also let me know whether the punctuation saves whe you just type it there yourself. You could say:

    .testingsomething {
    color: pink;
    }

    as an easy test that won’t affect anything.

    The images are also fixed.
