Changes to theme 2014

Using theme 2014 with no mods now. Until yesterday the top menu did not move now the whole page scrolls – not what it says in description. Also I had used formatted captions and now they are all italics whatever I enter.
    eg caption <i>word</i> second word
    all shows in italics.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi – I checked the code history of this theme, and there haven’t been any recent changes to the Twenty Fourteen theme that I can find, either to the top menu or to caption formatting.

The top menu is fixed/sticky as you scroll down, as you can see on the demo site: https://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/

If you’d like to format captions differently, please let me know how you’d like them to appear – just un-italicized? – and we’ll see what options there are.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have three sites in development and until yesterday they all had fixed/sticky menus now two at least move – scared to touch the third. Also I was happy with my use of captions as in Geranium ‘Brookside Blue’ should have Geranium only in italics now the whole caption is in italics and I can’t control it from the image caption.

    Small test site at https://ntsamc.wordpress.com/test/

Sorry I am a newbie but thought I’d got on OK so far with the bigger of the sites.

  • Oops – I hit reply too early, sorry!

Which menu are you referring to, the top menu or the one in the left sidebar? The top menu has always been sticky. Could you provide links to your other two sites so I can take a look?

    For your captions, try this:

<span style="font-style:normal;">no italics here</span> more text that will be italicized by default

This site is the largest (lots more to do) https://asbremner.wordpress.com/study-group/ and this page is a good example of the top menu not being fixed. Ignore the captions on that page as they are imbedded in the images.
Look at the Home page and check the only image with caption which should be all lower case apart from the M. at the front. That’s botanical name and I have hundreds of photos to load here and do not need them all to be tailored by hand. The site will be on pro plan soon but I would like to know what I have done wrong here.

    Many thanks!

Your top menu is fixed as I scroll down on that page on a laptop. Here’s a screencast:

On small mobile devices, the menu isn’t fixed.

Re: your captions – I don’t think you’ve done anything wrong. The captions in Twenty Fourteen are italicized by default. If you’d like part of them to be not italicized and you’d prefer not to edit your captions, perhaps a different theme would work better for you?

Thank you – re fixed menu that must mean I have some weirdo on my screen/browser controls so my problem. I can change the CSS on the captions once I change plan but I thought I had it.

Thanks very much for your input.

  • You’re welcome! If you need further help once you upgrade, feel free to post in the CSS Customization forum and we’ll be happy to help there.
