Changin the width of a PollDaddy poll

  • Unknown's avatar

I created a poll within Polldaddy and embedded it on a webpage (https://grownlocalmarin.wordpress.com/application/online-application/) within my WordPress website (https://grownlocalmarin.wordpress.com/). The poll looks great, except that some of the questions get cut off on the right. Is there a way to shrink the poll a little so that it fits entirely in the page? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi grownlocalmarin!
I can’t view your blog – I get a message that it’s marked as private and to contact you for access. That said, you can definitely change the width of your polls on the Polldaddy site.

    1. Login to your Polldaddy account
    2. Find the survey that you want to modify and hover over it with your mouse. This should bring up some options below the name of the poll.
    3. On the far left is an option titled “Design poll” – click that link.
    4. On the next page, there are three tab choices: “Settings”, “Poll Style” and “Edit Language”.
    5. Click “Poll Style”.
    6. Beneath the images of the various layouts you can choose, there’s a section titled “Select your poll width.” For a recent poll I did, I selected wide because it said it was good for blog posts.
    7. If you already had wide selected, I believe that’s as wide as your poll can go without creating your own theme (available for Pro accounts). Hopefully this helps!

    Hi bookreviewsandhaikus!

Thanks for the tips! I followed your advice and got as far as step #6, but do not see a “Select your poll width” option. Mine is actually a survey instead of a poll – might this option not exist for surveys?

I made my site visible, so you should be able to view it now.
    Thanks again!

    Hi @grownlocalmarin!
Thanks for making your site visible – definitely helpful to see the page live!

Apologies for leading you to the wrong page before – I thought you were using the poll option on polldaddy. Surveys don’t appear to have the same option for width control but there are multiple ways to add surveys to your site. It appears that you used the first iframe option, which manually sets the width of the survey. There’s also an “auto-resizing iframe” option which might work out better for you.

To test that one out, follow these steps:

    1. login to your poll daddy account
    2. hover over your survey and click “Collect Responses” when the options show up
    3. from the following page, click the “Website Inline” tab
    4. copy the WordPress shortcode in the “Auto-resize iframe” section
    5. edit your WordPress page in HTML mode and paste the code from Polldaddy in there (you’ll have to remove the previous Polldaddy code as well)
    6. save this as a draft and preview the new page to see if this resolved the problem

I made a test form with some longer phrases like the ones that are currently getting cut off on your survey and this method showed all the text for me. Then again, I’m using a different theme on my blog so I suppose that could be part of it.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi bookreviewsandhaikus!

Thanks for another detailed response! I followed your steps, and turns out I had been using the “auto-resizing iframe” option, which is being cut off… :-( Don’t suppose you have any other ideas?

    Thanks again!

I had the same issue, and I found that changing the style of the survey worked, as the ‘Finish survey’ button is now both huge and central, so is not cut off, nor are questions with the first theme, ‘Surveymattic’. Thanks, TheBookBlogger2014
