Changing a default option for inserting images

Hi! May I ask to change the default option for images from “attachment page” back to “direct link” for my blog? It’s been replaced previously.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I am unsure what do you mean by “direct link”.

The default value of Link To on the Edit Image panel is Media File, not Attachment Page. Attachment Page, Custom URL and None are the other options.

Could you elaborate on what are you seeking?

I meant the “Media File” to be a default option. Right now, it’s “Attachment Page.”

  • Which dashboard screen are you editing the image from?

I tried editing few images in my posts and the default value of Link To on the Edit Image panel is Media File.

May I ask to change my “insert media” default “Link to” settings back to “Media file”?

    chaitanyamsv,

Yep, it’s the default option, but I had it changed before to “Attachment page.”

I’d like my setting to be changed to “Attachment page” by default. Having it set on “Media File” by default has caused an enormous problem on my site because for a long time I didn’t recognize that the default setting had been altered at some point, and this setting (I’ve just realized a week or so ago) has been causing the changes which I assumed WordPress had implemented across the board. I don’t want pages opening against a black background completely unconnected to the website, except for the website address in the page URL. when until quite recently — in September of this year I noticed that images in galleries were now being displayed this way, whereas previously I’d noticed more and more of the embedded images displayed this way —
for years I’d had about 98% of my images displayed on Attachment pages which include the following:

    1. Website name, which is also a link to the homepage
    2. Website header, which is also a link to the homepage (on my theme at least)
    3. Header navigation bar, which in my case includes a drop-down index to all the pages, which happen to contain 97% of my website.
    4. Page title — the title of the page containing the gallery, which is also a link to that page (Note: The links in numbers 1-4 lead to either the front page, or a full-page display in which the full sidebar is displayed).
    6. Edit tab
    7. Post or page author
    8. Comment option
    9. Date the image was published on the website
    10. Links to both the previous and the subsequent image chronologically
    11. Sharing links

I never had to choose Attachment page, because all pages were uploaded to the default setting since I began using WordPress. The only exceptions were images which I linked a Custom URL (to other posts or pages, internally or externally) but this was never accomplished with the “link to” setting, it was done with the “Insert/Edit link” tool. I totally ignored the “link to” setting on uploaded images for nearly 6 years, with all images correctly assigned to Attachment page, before the default was evidently changed without informing me. And the change affected not just new image uploads, but images uploaded years ago as well.

I’ve addressed this issue previously in a couple of forum threads only to have the issue ignored, or to repeatedly have my topic immediately closed without explanation, without the topic title or content appearing, and with the note “Started 44 years ago by Anonymous” attached (four times in one day).
I’ve also corresponded privately via Email with a Staff member about this issue only to be told that he/she could not reproduce the issue and didn’t understand what I was referring to.

    Correction (first paragraph, previous post):
    “unconnected to” = “disconnected from”
