Changing a site made in iweb to wordpress and keeping the domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

My friend Don Bridges created his website donbridges.com.au with iweb a few years ago, through the domain provider Digital Pacific https://www.digitalpacific.com.au/.
I don’t think iweb exists anymore and to continue to be able to update his site, I suggested he make and manage it in wordpress. I am now trying to move all his content to a wordpress site, however am not sure how to link or change the content of his existing domain to a wordpress one, or is it possible to remake the website and keep donbridges.com.au?

    Thanks for your assistance!

    Hi donbridgesau,

In order to help your friend, you will need to map his domain (to keep the domain name) and import content from his site or simply remake it.

To map his domain, please refer to the following support page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

WordPress.com hasn’t any importing tool for your particular platform. You have 2 possibilities:

    1. WordPress.com offers many tools to remake your friend’s website: https://wordpress.com/start

    2. You will need to try and convert your friend’s site into one of the accepted formats so that you can use the proper importer, such as Blogger, and then import your site from Blogger to WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

    Happy blogging!

The site looks like a plain html site – so you will probably end up copy and paste – then fix the formatting – on the good side you won’t need to type all the stuff in again

Make sure you have the new site set to correct formatting errors

dashboard >> Settings >> writing >> should correct html errors

also you might want to paste the text in as plain text to strip the formatting codes – I usually do that to get rid of strange stuff
