Changing “about me”

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m having a devil of a time figuring out how to change the “about me” widget. if you look at http://robfindlay.wordpres.com you will see what I mean.

also, other then the wordpress themes are their other themes I can use? If someone could point me in the direction of them and perhaps some instructions I’d be most happy.

Bona fide wordpress.com (note the double s in wordpress) blogs do not have “About Me” widgets. The link you provide above is not to a bona fide wordpress.com blog. This is the correct link to your blog http://robfindlay.wordpress.com/

The theme you have chosen Andreas 04 supplies a brief “About Me” bio statement in the sidebar by default. The information for it is derived from here -> Users -> Your Profile (scroll down to the
About Yourself” box on the left hand side – input the data and click “Update Profile” to save).

You can only use the themes that are available on your Presentation page. Those are what we have available at WordPress.com. Just click on the one you want and hit Save Changes and you will have the new one on your blog instantly.

    Q2 Good catch raincoaster. :)

One more question, how does one change the fonts his posts are displayed in?

  • Unknown's avatar

You can do it for your whole blog if you have the CSS upgrade, or you can use the Advanced Toolbar in the Visual Editor (last icon on the right) or you can code it in HTML for every paragraph. There’s no way to change the default font other than the CSS upgrade, because designers have chosen those fonts and hard-coded them into the theme.

    Raincoster,

All I have on the far right of the advanced toolbar is a redo and an undue.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry, I could have sworn that it had a font selector in it. I guess you’re stuck with editing it line by line in HTML or doing the CSS upgrade or just going with what you’ve got. Different templates use different fonts as their default, so check them out.

yeah, I’m kind of stuck with the same issue. I’ve changed the About Me in my profile, but I can’t get rid of the About Me word block. I don’t need it gone, I just need to access it to change it.

    see?

    help?

    Thanks!

You need to be asking at WordPress.org, as that’s not a WordPress.com-hosted site and we won’t be able to help you here.

    I have a problem:

even though I have changed the data in ‘About Me’ in my profile, but on my front page it says ‘the Author doesn’t say very much about himself’.

This is really irritating, not least because I am not a ‘him’ – I am a ‘her’!

How can I fix either or both of these problems?

Changing it on your profile doesn’t put it on your About page. You need to write one: right now your blog has no content whatsoever, so that message is an automatic one for when the About page is blank. Go to Manage –> Pages and put the content there.

But WordPress.com should definitely change the default, given that the majority of bloggers are female.

    @cvsanders:
The theme you’re using, Supposedly Clean, should pull the info from your “About Yourself” field under Dashboard->Users->Your Profile. I just tested it on my test blog, and it worked.

Double check that you saved the information there. If it’s there but not showing on the blog, clear your cache and reload the page. This will make sure you are seeing an updated version of the blog. If it’s still not there, contact staff using the Support button that is normally available on your Dashboard Monday-Friday.

Also, the sidebar is cached, and any changes to “about yourself” in your profile could or will take a hour or three maybe to update and show up in the sidebar.
