changing appearance and content of blog

  hello, i love wordpress and have been using it as a blog platform for almost six years but i want to change the theme as the whole content and direction of blog is changing. not sure where to start. or could i start a new wordpress blog and link to my old blog so that readers feed straight into new one … your thoughts and guidance please! thank you
