Changing blog address and ‘traffic’ transfer?
-
So I started editing my wordpress blog from the default design, to my own (well using a free theme that I installed). I then realised that the Blog/Site Address is in-fact a “silly” email I made when I was younger (one I used when signing up to wordpress), and so I cannot link companies my blog if the Blog/Site Address name is the “silly email”. e.g sillyemail.wordpress.com”.
So changing the Blog/Site Address Change is what I want to do. But what does this mean? I have a professional gmail account, but changing the “silly email..wordpress.com” to “professionalgmail..wordpress.com” wont actually mean its linked to my new email account. which is what the “purchasing the Site Redirect upgrade” means I presume? is it for any emails you receive from wordpress or change password alerts?
Is it better just to make a new wordpress account with my professional gmail? Even though I have lots of blog posts that I would like to transfer to my new account otherwise I have to upload every single one again 🙁
Hopefully it makes sense! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

HI there,
I then realised that the Blog/Site Address is in-fact a “silly” email I made when I was younger
I’m not sure what you mean here. A blog URL and an email address are not the same thing. Your site’s URL is https://greekgooner.wordpress.com/. An email address is structured “(email visible only to moderators and staff)”. The email address you use for your WordPress.com account has absolutely nothing to do with your site’s URL.
So changing the Blog/Site Address Change is what I want to do.
To change the free WordPress.com address, follow the steps here:
To remove the “wordpress” from your address, you need to first purchase a paid plan at My Site ->Plans, and then you can add a custom domain under My Site ->Domains.
which is what the “purchasing the Site Redirect upgrade” means I presume?
A Site Redirect is used to redirect website traffic from one website URL to another website URL. It has nothing to do with email addresses.
If you want to change the email address you’re using for your WordPress.com account, you can change that under your account settings. That will have no effect whatsoever on the addresses/URLs of any sites in your account.

hmm so I think I understand it. So my current blog URL is ” https://greekgooner.wordpress.com/ “. Is this what other people will see?
Basically what I want is to remove the “greekgooner” and change it to “costapanayi” (which is my name and looks and sounds more professional). I thought changing the Blog/Site Address will change the “greekgooner” so people will see a new one I add?

You will need to follow the Change Blog Address instructions I linked to above. That will automatically move all your content, followers and stats over to the new address you create.
