Changing blog url created new blog

I have around 15 people already following my blog. I wanted to change the url of my blog, from charlescopley.wordpress.com to charlienicholas.wordpress.com. Instead of changing the url, it created a whole new blog, duplicating all the content. What gives? When filling out the “change url” form, did I miss something? I just wanted to change the url, but I still want to keep “charlescopley” available just in case.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It is not possible to change the name of the site AND keep the old name around in case you want to use it in the future. Once a site’s name has been changed, the old URL becomes permanently unavailable.

So you likely chose to create a new site so that you would not lose your old URL.
