changing blog URL, not domain or moving site
-
I want to change my site url from “currentblog.wordpress.com” to “newblog.wordpress.com” but I am so confused by the information out there already. I do not want to move the blog to a new doman, just change the URL and keep the wordpress.com part. The site title would be the same. Not going to try to mess with the coding because that’s beyond what I really understand.
Basically, what is confusing me is: Will everything already on the blog move with it? How to I make sure everything is not lost?
I’m OK with buying the site redirect. It just seems like typing in a new URL and buying the site redirect is too easy.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We cannot edit any blog URLs. If you want to change the .wordpress.com blog address ie. the URL starting with http:// then you must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to do that and the URL you desire must be available. If so, then you can change the URL by using the guide http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Be sure to locate the correct page http://en.support.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/dashboard-e1371648470893.png
Changing a URL is a permanent and irreversible act. No changed or deleted blog URLs are recycled here, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

Know that the consequences of changing URLs and not purchasing a site redirect upgrade are that every time an original URL is clicked anywhere on the internet the person who clicks it will experience a 404 page not found.
Advice: Do not ever change the URL of a.wordpress.com blog without purchasing a site redirect upgrade unless the original blog is empty or next to it.

Changing the URL is indeed moving the blog to a new domain. A URL is a domain.
All that changes is the URL/domain, incoming links and followers (unless you also buy the redirect upgrade), the social shares count, and the Googlejuice. Your page rank drops to zero when you change a url (as opposed to buying a custom domain).
Buying a redirect is NOT the same as changing a URL. It’s an add-on you will want so that people who link to your old site will now link to your new one. If you don’t buy it, the old links will all be broken and go nowhere.

Thank you! I didn’t realize changing the url was changing the domain. Explains why I was so confused.
One other semi-related question: Is there an easy way to create a back up for everything on there?
