Changing CNAME for Google App Capability

  Hi,
  I’m going through the process of setting up GOOG apps for my blog.

  My WP blog is hosted at WP. I bought the custom domain elsewhere but have it mapped to WP.

  To set up GOOG apps (mail) WP instructs me to go follow the “HTML upload” directions from Google. I’ve done that and have enabled Google MX under settings->domains. The WP FAQ tells me to follow Google’s instructions to finish the process. According to Google, the last step instructs me to point the CNAME record to google.com. Where do I do that that step?

  It depends on where you have your domain name parked. You can either log into your account(not your wordpress one, your registrar’s) and change the settings from there or post a support ticket and have them doing it.

  Oh, and I think the CNAME record might need to point to ghs.google.com… at least it is on my google apps account.

  Thanks for your reply mc360.

  My domain is parked with GoDaddy but they say I’m not able to change CNAMEs or DNS stuff with them because I’m pointing the NS to WP.

  Are you saying I can leave a support ticket for WP and have them change it?

  I am having the same exact problem, including the GoDaddy part. I called GoDaddy and they insist that since the nameservers are pointed at WordPress and WordPress is hosting the site, I can only set the CNAME at WordPress. I’ve spent a good bit of time trying to figure out how to do this but it doesn’t appear to be an option. Any advice?

  I just registered a domain through WordPress. I want to activate Google Apps but can’t figure out how to change a CNAME in the bare-bones domain manager provided through WordPress’s domain hosting service? How do I do it? – Brian
