Changing colours of theme menu (Hever)

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve looked at instruction video’s about that subject (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ze29b4tmhD0&t=118s ), I’ve read al the info I can find ( e.g. https://wordpress.com/support/custom-colors/ ) but whatever I do or try, I don’t manage to change the colours of the menu.

Hever should support ‘colours and backgrounds’ (as it has it in the customise menu) but it’s not clear at all on how and what and where these colours apply to.

Moreover, in above link on ‘custom colors’ I can’t find anything on where to apply it or what item will be coloured by any action.

    What do I do wrong?

    Hi,

At Customize > Background & Colors, on the Hever theme, there are five areas of the site for which colors are customizable. These five areas are represented by the give circles under the heading “Colors,” each of which is mapped to one of the five areas. By clicking on each circle, you can find out which area each corresponds to, because when any of them is clicked the corresponding area appears under the five circles. This feature is described and illustrated in the Change Colors section of the Custom Colors support page.

By trial and error, I discovered that the Foreground Color circle affects the text color in the primary menu. The middle circle in the top row is the Foreground Color circle. So to change the color of the primary menu text, you would do the following:

    1. Click on the Foreground Color circle (2nd in top row)
    2. Choose from one of the 12 optional colors offered in two rows of colored squares, as described and illustrated in the Color Suggestions section of the support page, or
    3. Click the “pick your own color” link to reveal a color picker that allows you to pick a color from a broad spectrum, as described and illustrated in the Color Picker section.
    4. Once you’ve chosen a color that you like, save the customization by clicking the Save Changes button at the top of the Colors & Backgrounds window.

Another alternative is to choose one of the available palettes. Each palette affects the color is the five customizable areas. See the Choose a Palette section of the support page for relevant information and instructions.

Correction: The section at Customize is “Colors & Backgrounds,” not “Background & Colors.”

Oh, waowww, what een lot of super information, it works!!

I’m going to read al the links you have given and will come back after I really tried out everything more in detail.

In my language ( = Dutch), there is a saying that says about somebody that he or she ‘is worth his weight in gold’, well, you are :D ! I also ‘tried and errored’ a lot, but I still had no clue, and that could have taken a long time.

You’re very welcome. Glad to help. : )

Sorry about all the typos in my response. Here are a couple of other corrections:

    1. “the give circles” should be “the five circles”
    2. “Each palette affects the colors in the five customizable areas.”

Not to worry about typos, it is what you explain that is important!

Would you also know where the secondairy and tertiairy colors apply to? I think I don’t have items yet that would be colored by them, because I don’t see any change when I set to one of both.

But otherwise, everything about the colours is clear to me know, thanks!

Would you also know where the secondary and tertiary colors apply to?

I don’t know those color categories always refer to the same areas on themes where they are offered, or if there are detailed descriptions of them available anywhere, so I’ll call for staff attention regarding this. Staff will respond here.

On Hever, I still have the default Home, About, and Contact pages on my test site. So they look like those pages on the Hever demo. I notice the following effects:

    Home
Secondary changes the background color of the button in the cover image at the top of the page.
Tertiary changes the color of the lines on the Tolkien pull quote.
Primary affects text links, cover image overlay tint, and the secondary color of the navigation menu items.

    About
Secondary affects nothing present on the demo About page.
Tertiary affects the horizontal lines above and below both the page title and the “Let’s build something together” section (block unknown).
Primary affects the vertical lines in the testimonials block, the background color of the button near the bottom of the page, and secondary menu item color.

    Contact
Secondary affects nothing present on the page.
Tertiary affects the horizontal lines above and below the page title, and the boxes in the contact form.
Primary affects text link color, the button in the contact form, and secondary menu item color.

The different palette options do just depend on the theme. Text and background colors are often separate from the palette, so what’s left is usually accent colors. Bear in mind too, not every theme will give you all five options. It just depends on how the theme is set up.

I recommend loading up Customizer and changing a color. You’ll see what it applies to.

If you need more color customization than that, you can use blocks / group blocks and adjust colors there, or you can use CSS with any site upgraded to Premium or higher.

    We have more information here:
    https://wordpress.com/premium

And if you want to upgrade, you can do so here:

    Cheers!

I also have Hever, so I have all 5 options – I will have to let surprise me on wat items the colors show up ;-) .
