changing comment size on chaoticsoul

  • Unknown's avatar

    I am trying to enlarge the comment font size in chaotic soul. I have the css style sheet for it ready to change the size, but don’t know which part changes the text of the comment. My readers say they cannot read the comments. I change the size, color and spacing for every post, every paragraph for the spacing. Is there a way to set that with the css as well?

    Add the following to your custom CSS

    .commentlist {
    font-size:1.1em;
    }

    You can change the 1.1em to something larger if you wish, but 1.1em is the size of the text in the body of the posts. It will look consistent that way.

    Thanks for helping thesacredpath, I see that money was involved and decided it was worth it for my readers to pay for the css upgrade.

    Yes, it does require the paid CSS upgrade. Good luck with the money raising efforts.

    I am having same problem.

    I am ready to upgrade my CSS just for this problem. But I exactly dont know what to do after that? Can you please guide me through.

    Thanks in advance.

    The answer is in this comment thread. tsp has already given you the instructions.

    Once I upprade my CSS, do I just have to copy that code and paste it in the EDIT CSS box.

    Did I understood right??

    First off, do know that this code above only works with the chaoticsoul theme. If you are using a different theme, then the code will likely be different.

    Yes, that is right. Paste only the code above into the edit box (clear anything that is there before doing so). You can then press the preview button to see your blog with the change. Then if all is OK, make sure the “add to existing stylesheet” is selected and then click save.

    You will have to reload you blog page to see the change.

    Thanks for your reponse. Your help is really appreciated.

    I am using Contempt theme. what kind of code am I going to need to make my FONT in comment box little bigger?

    Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Actually it is the same for Contempt. I’m surprised. The post body text is 1.2em, so add this to your CSS:

    .commentlist p {
    font-size:1.2em;
    }

    I did manage to change the comment size and many other sizes on chaotic soul and also colors. Changing the colors let me see what code affected what part of the theme, comments, sidebar, etc. Now that all the fonts are the size I want, people are emailing me that they cannot find or see the leave a comment button or any of the comments. These are all blogger users. When I look at it, everything is there. I noticed I received no comments from 7:44 last night, the time when I was changing the font sizes. Is there code on the css that affects this? Or is it a blogger vs. wordpress thing?

    Thanks.

    fairegarden – can you give us a link to your blog so we can take a look? Also, consider putting your blog in your username https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-make-your-name-link-to-your-blog?replies=54

    I can see everything alright in FF, IE, Opera, Safari or Chrome, but…the HUGE font does make me a bit confused, maybe that’s the issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

    My original problem was that the font was too small on the post and the comments. I have it set now at 1.4 em. It looks good to me but are you seeing it in your reader as really really big? How big should I make it so that the over fifty set, which includes me, can read it easily?

    Vivian, sorry, I have now put my blog url in the username. I wasn’t even aware of that. Still learning.

    I have checked all the setting for comments and they are all set for all comments on all posts. The bloggers still can’t see the comment buttons. I have noticed that the button is sometimes at the top with the title. If it is clicked on there, it disappears and goes to the bottom with the showing comments at the end. But the blogger users are not seeing either it seems.

    I was able to leave a comment just fine on your latest post and I can see everything both when I’m logged in and when I’m logged out. I simply clicked on the “comments” link on the main page. With the font so large (it’s over a quarter inch tall on my display) you have to scroll down a long ways to get the where you can comment. Also, the comment box, and the name, email and website fields blend into the blog background. Think about making the background color for those fields a lighter color so they stand out and are easier to find. Perhaps a light grey.

    Just my opinion, but 1.4em is far too large. I would go 1.2em maximum. On my laptop which is at 1024 x 768 resolution, the fonts are even larger looking and very little is in view on my screen.

    Thanks so much Richard. I have changed the font size to 1.2 in the comment and text. That post has html code written into it for the font and color size. It was written before I changed the css sheet. Where can I change the font color and background color on the comment box? That is something that I have never used and didn’t know it was hard to see.
    Thanks.

    It is

    input,textarea{
    color:#fill in your color number here for text color of the comment box

    For anyone who wants to know.

    By the way, your “homepage” is your main blog page at this URL: http://fairegarden.wordpress.com/ . Comments are not shown on that page. You either have to click on the comments link or on the post title to get to the single-post page where the comments are.
