Changing date to English format
-
Is yours a wordpress.com blog? Please post the url for your blog. The style in which the date/timestamp appears cannot be changed. The theme designers define how it will be displayed in each of their individual theme.
Sorry tt but this can’t stay on the record. The date / time format can be set in options in nearly all themes.
More technically the theme author has the choice of using the WP function get_date or the generic php function the_time. They behave slightly differently. The default get_date function can be driven off the options panel. The downside is that it does not repeat per post. It only appears once per date. Hence some authors trade the flexibility of one for the control of the other. Nothing fancy.

The same thing happened to me with the Regulus theme – it’s a mind boggling come and go glitch, indeed.Also note this -> Some themes feature timestamps and some do not. There are two options for themes that do not display them:
(1) Type in the time on each post.
(2) Switch to a theme that has this feature.
Themes with and without timestamps – partial lists as new themes have been added since. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=1703@atthe404
I agree that my statement above is wrong. Thanks for correcting it and thanks for clarifying the situation for those who read this thread. I appreciate it. :)The date / time format can be set in options in nearly all themes.

Well it is a big jump if someone sees something in the option panel which apparently has a temporary glitch to say either that it can’t be done, or that it can’t be done in that theme for some reason. A glitch is just a glitch.
-
Mistylook ignores changes you make to the date in Options – or it’s the glitch who can be sure? I have it set to show the full month name and it only shows the 3-letter abbreviation.
Guess all anyone can do it try it with their theme, and if it doesn’t change, then it’s either the glitch or it’s not. If it does change then they can declare themselves happy campers.

Well there is a test if the blog operator publishes two posts on the same day. If they observe that the date/time appears once – we can infer that the theme uses the date function and is controllable from admin. If it appears once per post ie twice: then we can infer the theme uses the php time function and IS NOT controllable via admin.
-
As a suggestion to the OP (who has probably long ago abandoned all hope) you might look at redoable as the date is hard-coded in the english format (03 oct) however it does not show the year. Other than that, just start trying themes until you find one that will obey the date command you put into the options > general page.
@tt
I have imprints of the keys on my forehead as well. -
Well I dont know what *hard coded* means in this context. All themes use one of two php functions – one generic – on peculiar to WP. Both are coded but not hard coded. In both cases the date is dynamic. In one case the format can be driven from options. I think I need to quit this while I am ahead. :)

Sorry, but I’m confused a little (OK, a lot) :)
@atthe404
In your test you said: “Well there is a test if the blog operator publishes two posts on the same day. If they observe that the date/time appears once – we can infer that the theme uses the date function and is controllable from admin. If it appears once per post ie twice: then we can infer the theme uses the php time function and IS NOT controllable via admin.”In connections, the date format is affected by the date format you choose under options, but with multiple posts on one day, the date is shown on each post.
And if you choose to throw something at me, throw it hard so I’m out for a while. :)
-
Please – no throwing things …lol … :D
We learn something new every day.
So let’s agree to keep the process painless, okay? -
tsp : assuming what you say is correct then this is not default behavior and is peculiar to WP dot com I would think. As such it is – as usual – a complete mystery. :)
-
Well, gentlemen the next time this “mysterious” and mind-boggling issue with peculiar to wordpress glitches comes up I’m simply posting this link and letting the posting party have at it. :)

I poked about in the svn and this is how the wp.com version of Connections handles dates:
<?php the_time(get_option(‘date_format’)); ?>
Nifty. I think I may steal it.
