Changing DNS at my domain
-
Hello,
I’m currently trying to attach my blog to my domain name. WordPress has rightful identified the nameservers for my domain, of which there’s 2. Below is what I see when I go to manage DNS with my hosting provider.
A, CNAME and TXT records:
Name: “@” Type: “A” Content: IP address
Name: “www” Type: “A” Content: IP address
Add new entryMy question: First of all, is this the info that I should be changing, or should I be changing the MX records? And secondly, if I am changing these records, what name and type should the 3rd nameserver be?
Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry we be confused – are you trying to map your current WordPress.COM blog to an existing domain name you own?
Please provide the URL of the blog you want to use and the domain name you are trying to move to – are you trying to add your WordPress.COM blog into an existing site?
This will help us provide you accurate help.
-
Yes, sorry, that’s exactly what I’m trying to do.
I wish to move my blog, voiceav.wordpress.com to my domain, voiceav.com, which I own and is hosted by a provider called 123-reg.co.uk.
Please let me know if you need more info.
Thanks in advance.

You have two choices.
1) You can install WordPress.ORG software on your voiceav.com site then export your existing blog from WordPress.COM and import the contents to your new install on voiceav.com – then probably buy the offsite forward I think it is called to send traffic from your old WordPress.COM site or leave a message on the old site that you have moved (delete the old content so search engines won’t see duplicate stuff – they hatethat)
2) map your WordPress.COM site to like blog.voiceav.com – that lets you use the site here but it looks like part of your voiceav.com site. see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/

A bit more information: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
Timethief has some more info on her web site – here is one link: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/11/06/setting-up-a-self-hosted-wordpress-org-install/

So, is it not possible to map to my existing domain, as mentioned in this article?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/The idea was that I shift the blog to the domain and install a custom theme.
-
If you want the custom theme then you need to host the blog on your voiceav.com site.
Do you want to have WordPress software drive your whole site (many people do)?
-
-
Yes driving your whole site with WordPress software is a real nice way to do things – I do that with my site – both when I was self hosted and WordPress.ORG software and now that I am hosted on WordPress.COM. And I NEVER refer to my site as a “blog” I just call it a Boating Safety web site that uses WordPress blog software – yes wordsmith I know – but it is amazing how many people have a set idea on what a “blog” is.
Slick, and easy to do.
Read the guides on how to transfer things and set up a .ORG site – there are some stickies at the top of the Forum that help and timethief has several guides on her site about setting up a .ORG site.
There is a lot of help over at WordPress.ORG – nice people over there.
Good luck.
