  my current domain is being used for my existing website. I want to build a wordpress site on a different domain and then transfer to my existing domain later on. is this possible?

  That’s a great idea – getting the site ready before interrupting the old one.

  Yes, that is entirely possible! Here is what you need to do:
  Create the new site it would be easiest if you do that under the user name you use on the current site. Simply click the “Start a new WordPress” or click “Register another blog” at the bottom of that same page.

  You can make it a Private site while you are building it if you do not want anyone to see your exciting new creation until you are ready to unveil it!

  Build your site, and when you are ready to move it over to your existing site, follow the instructions in:
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/#changing-your-blog-address-to-one-you-already-own
