Changing domain

  I am planning on mapping an old domain, but completely re-designing beforehand. I want to start working on the new website but keep the old one (powered by WebsiteBuilder) up while I work on it. The website is for someone else and they will be reviewing everything before it goes public, so it may be a slow timeline. Just want to confirm that working on the new website won’t mess with the old one before the transition. Thanks!

  I clicked on the site link provided and that blog is set to Private.

  If you’d like to keep the old blog up while you work on the new one, you should create two separate blogs. I recommend the following path: set up a new blog > design the blog > export the new blog data > empty the old blog > import new data into the old blog.

  If you’d like to hide the site from public view while you work on it, you can use Private or Maintenance mode. Maintenance mode is available when you subscribe to our Business Plan. If you have a different plan, you can set your site to Private mode until you’re ready to launch.

  Hi @shepdavislaw. I wanted to take the opportunity to follow up with you on your post.

  I realized I didn’t address that your old site is powered by WebsiteBuilder.

  Re-reading your question, it sounds like you may want to confirm that building a site on your private WordPress.com site won’t have an impact on the site hosted with WebsiteBuilder.

  In the interest of total clarity: building a site on WordPress.com won’t affect your other WebsiteBuilder hosted site before the transition.

  Also, if you’d like to assign the domain name currently at the old site to the new site once your new WordPress.com site is complete, we can help you connect that domain. We’d need to know what the domain is and then we can give you the correct steps to follow.
