Changing domain: from wpcomstaging back to wordpress after removing trial plan
-
I activated the trial Creator/business plan (because I accidentally changed my site theme and want to restore the revision, however this doesn’t work as well…), and so I cancelled the trial, go back to the Free plan but my domain/URL is still wpcomstaging.
Now I want to change it back to .wordpress.com but I searched everywhere and can’t find any option for that.
Hopefully I can get some help, thank you so much!

Hi there!
We’ll need to revert the site to the state it was in before you activated hosting features or installed the first plugin/theme after starting the Creator plan. Basically, the site address changes when it’s taken to the special platform built for plugin-enabled sites. In order to move it back, we must revert the site.
Could you check this page and confirm you’re okay with us going ahead?
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

First of all thank you so much, I’m really grateful for the timely reply!
I have read the guide and confirm that I would like to downgrade to the Free plan and revert the site to the old address. Please go on 🙏

Hi,
Thanks for confirming it.
We’ve already reverted your site, and you can now manage it as thoibacnho.wordpress.com
Let us know if you need further assistance, and we’ll be happy to help! -
Thank you so much for the assistance.
For now the message “Since your site is now on our Free Plan, we are deactivating…” is still on the top of my admin page, and when I access my site through the domain .wordpress.com, it stills automatically transfers to the .wpcomstaging domain (which ends up in an error page).
Does that means the downgrading process is still not completed yet? If possible can you kindly inform me how more long it’s supposed to take, please? Many thanks!

Hi,
I’ve checked your dashboard, and I didn’t spot that “Since your site is now on our Free Plan, we are deactivating…” message:

I was also able to visit your site as thoibacnho.wordpress.com:

After clearing the browser cache my redirecting problem is thankfully solved. But now it left me with another question (rather than a problem, I just want to share my concern and would be grateful for any kind of reply): Will the readers encounter the same problem with this redirect mechanism?
To be more clear: When I use a higher plan, my site domain will change to the wpcomstaging address. If a reader visit my site in this period using the .wordpress.com URL, they will automatically be redirected to the new .wpcomstaging.com. This will be written/remembered(?) in their browser cache.
After that, if I downgrade to the Free plan, my site domain will come back to the original .wordpress.com address. But at this moment, even if this reader access my site through this .wordpress.com domain, the browser cache still redirects it to the wpcomstaging domain (which results in an error page because it’s no longer supported).
To me it seems like the .wordpress.com can auto redirect to the .wpcomstaging.com, but in the opposite direction, the wpcomstaging can not redirect to the .wordpress.com, right? Or is there any option/solution that I missed out?
If that is the case then isn’t it too troublesome? For example I’m thinking that I would have to ask all the readers who visited my site in the ‘higher plan period’ to clear their browser cache, so that they can visit my .wordpress.com site normally without being redirected endlessly. That sounds so complicated and problematic for anyone
However this is just my personal experience & point of view. I’m really happy with all the support received from the staffs here, thank you so much!

To switch your domain back to .wordpress.com after ending a trial and moving to a free plan, you need to look in your WordPress settings or the area where domains are managed. There should be a way to change your site’s address or manage your domains there.
-
Thank you so much for answering! It seems like my previous problem was because the trial plan hasn’t ended yet, so the staff helped me end it beforehand.
After that I have some troubles while visiting the site because the .wordpress.com domain still automatically redirects to the wpcomstaging domain (which results in an error). I was instructed to clear the browser cache and then it’s solved.
Now some of my readers encountered the same redirect problem
Seems like the wpcomstaging domain (when not used) will not auto-redirect to the .wordpress.com domain. I’m thinking that I might have to ask the readers to clear their browser cache in order to visit my site normally, and it sounds really troublesome

Hi,
As thoibacnho.wpcomstaging.com is now a deleted site which doesn’t exist, it won’t redirect to thoibacnho.wordpress.com. I’m afraid that you’d need to indicate to your readers to clear browser cache or that your new URL is thoibacnho.wordpress.com.
Hope this helps!

https://pratikgade.wordpress.com i had the same problem but luckily i didn’t made it public or shared this website to anyone because i was just busy it building it slowly , and in future if i share this website my new visitors won’t need to clear the cache it is great for new visitors just like i have. hope we get any solution for old visitors or wait until they switch to new device or something like that.

Hello, I need to change from fashion2338.wpcomstaging the site that is free and then you have to pay as well back to the original domain fashion2338.wordpress.com. Please made a mistake was thinking I needed to add this but I don’t.
-
I just checked and confirmed that your site is already loading at this address: https://fashion2338.wordpress.com. Are you all set with this?
Regards

My free trial of the creator plan has expired, my site is themusicismyradar.wpcomstaging.com. Could I revert back to the free plan or does the expired trial eventually revert back to the WordPress.com address
