Changing Domain from Yahoo to WordPress
-
I have had a Yahoo hosted page for years. My site included a blog, but with all the changes Yahoo is making I was no longer happy with the service. It is not as user friendly as it use to be and posting to my blog on my website was a lot of trouble. Regarding the site I decided all I really wanted was a blog, but I wanted to keep my website name and the email accounts associated with it. So I bought credits, mapped my domain and changed my email hosting over to Google Apps. I am really happy with the change. I hope I didn’t make an uneducated assumption. Yahoo is still billing me the $11.95 a month free. I thought I permanently changed my service over to wordpress. When I look up information on whois it shows my registrar as wordpress. Will I loose my domain name if I don’t pay Yahoo?

I think you’ll need to contact staff on that one. Friday’s a bad day for that; you might not get an answer till Monday.

If I read you correctly, you are paying Yahoo for domain hosting, while mapping the domain here. Your domain is actually registered somewhere else. (When I did a WhoIs lookup for the domain shown in your profile, it shows a private registration, although the name servers are pointed to WordPress.com)
Now the question is: what are you paying the $11.95 per month for? I suspect it is a monthly hosting fee, which you no longer need. So perhaps you should contact Yahoo and cancel the hosting.

Thank you Vivian – very much. I thought I didn’t need their hosting services anymore. My understanding is that the domain name colethaonline is mine and I can have it hosted by anyone or hosting service I want.
