Changing Domain Name

  Hello,
  I am currently using the free plan but I want to change the URL from mindofmunchie.wordpress.com to contemporarywoman.wordpress.com (which is the name of my blog) but I cant figure out how to do that. I will eventually upgrade to the premium plan but I want to make sure when I upgrade I am getting the domain name contemporarywoman.com (or a close variation like contemporarywoman.org).

  Hi,

  There are two options –

  You can change your site address: https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-site-address/

  or

  You can register a new domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

  I suggest you read about both and decide on what’s best for you and whether you would like to upgrade.

  As contemporarywoman.wordpress.com already exists, you won’t be able to change to that address. Instead, you’ll need to export your content from the mindofmenchie site, and then import it to the contemporarywoman site. You can find the import and export options under My Site ->Settings for each site.

  If you want us to also migrate your followers and stats after you’ve moved the content, you can let us know in this thread once you’re ready.

  I want to make sure when I upgrade I am getting the domain name contemporarywoman.com (or a close variation like contemporarywoman.org).

  You can search for a domain at My Site ->Domains ->Add to see whether it’s available, but note that if a domain shows as available with us, it will also show as available at every other domain provider that supports that domain extension. So any domain that shows as available can be registered by anyone at any time, and we cannot guarantee that a domain showing as available right now will still be available even ten minutes from now.
