Changing domain name

  I have an existing blog (arlopenmic.wordpress.com) and want to purchase a custom domain – both changing the name and eliminating.wordpress from the URL. What do I have to do, if anything, to redirect from the old .wordpress URL to the new URL or will both domains be associated with the blog?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Most bloggers have published content under their .wordpress.com URLs prior to purchasing a domain name via a domain mapping upgrade. The reason they do purchase domain mapping is so that all the URLs from the .wordpress.com root blog when clicked seamlessly redirect to the same content in the same posts and pages under the new domain URLs.   Thank you Timethief. So, If I understand correctly when I apply for the new URL through the WordPress store, i someone tries accessing my blog using the old WordPress URL it will automatically reroute it to the new URL and my blog. No other action is required by me to make this happen. Is this correct?
