Changing domain name
-
Hi there,
I recently purchased a domain name but need to change it. I can’t seem to find that option anywhere on WordPress.
I am happy to purchase a new name if required but can’t seem to do that either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Purchase of a custom domain name has a 48 hour refund window, that is an internet standard. If you are beyond that you will need to purchase a new domain name. If you have domain mapping you should be able to have the domain mapping transferred to the new domain name if you want. However that will break the links to the first custom domain name and that can be bad for traffic depending on how widespread the old domain name was.
Remember to make sure that Auto Renew is turned off for the wrong domain name so you don’t get charged next year for renewal

Fantastic thanks for your help.
Do you know if I’m able to purchase a new domain name through WordPress while the first one is still active?
I have the option to map a new domain name but that appears to be for existing names? It asks me to tick a box that states ‘ I already own cpp-app.org.au and would like to map it to WordPress.com’

yes – you can purchase many domain names through WordPress.COM and map all of them to the same blog if you want! – the limit is that only one domain name can be the Primary Domain (the one displayed in the browser window of visitors)
You should have an option at
Dashboard >> Store to Register a new domain name – it should be in the box with “Add a Domain” on it

Thank you. The only option I seem to have is to map to an already existing domain, I don’t have the option to purchase a new one through WordPress.
I have since mapped a new domain name and purchased this name through another site and am trying to map it to my blog. All proving to be a very complicated process.

This should help you with the mapping

Sorry to keep bothering you but purchasing a domain name through another provider and mapping it hasn’t quite worked out and is proving an expensive option.
Do you know how I might purchase a new domain via WordPress? When I go into store and type in the new domain I wish to purchase it only gives me the option to map to an existing domain.
I have asked WordPress customer service but they only replied that it is possible and didn’t address the problem of only being able to map to an existing name not purchase a new one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Registering many domain names is a bit confusing, most people and organizations settle on one or two names in the pick a name process. Also registering many names costs extra, no need to do that
you should be able to purchase a domain name here, the one warning is that if someone else used the name on a blog here there can be some old records hanging around that the staff need to clear for you.
Lets start back at square one – it sounds like you have purchased a domain name with a register that is not WordPress.COM –
May we please have the domain name you have purchased?
What is the blog you want to map the domain name to?
When you tried to map the domain name did you get any error messages?
Remember that once a domain name is mapped and the name servers changed it can take up to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet and for access to settle down and become reliable
