Changing Domain name.
-
I have an exiting website with Intuit, and I own the domain name. I want to switch to WordPress, but I don’t want to switch till I have the WordPress site looking perfect. Can I build the site under my current blog then switch the DNS mapping without having to rebuild everything?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In a word “no”. WordPress.com and WordPress.org operate on different software. The themes of the same names are specifically coded to run either on the multiuser WordPress.com blogging platform or WordPress.org installs and are not interchangeable. I am very new at this, forgive my newbieness. I am aware of the difference in org and com. If I start to set up a new site on .com it asks for the name I want to use, and says you “can change it later”. If I put in my company name it says it is a registered site and asks if I want to move it to WordPress for an annual fee. I am willing to do that. But if I do it now I will not have a website till I get everything built. I am asking if I can use a different name while I am building the site, then have the name changed to MYCOMPANY.COM.

If your plan is to stay with WordPress.COM all the long, then yes you can have a __.wordpress.com address first and then, when you are ready, use the domain mapping option to change it to something like __.com.
