changing domain name after site is completed

    Hello,
    I’m putting together a website for a research center on the UC Berkeley campus. We already have a website, it’s outdated but we want to keep it up until I’ve finished putting this WordPress site together. But that website has the .berkeley.edu domain name that we want the WordPress site to have eventually. My question: Can I put together the new WordPress page using a .wordpress.com domain name and wait to map it to our desired domain name after everything is done?
