Changing domain names

  Hello,

  We are a non-profit organization, who is turning to wordpress so that we can have full access on editing our webpage when we want. We have a website, that we are wanting to redirect to our wordpress sight now, however we want to change our domain name to what the old sight has. What is the first step we need to take, we have spoke with several others who are familiar with wordpress and they believe that we need to purchase the guided transfer. Is this true??

  No one who knows how to set up a wordpress.org website needs to purchase a guided transfer.

  If you’ve already registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  I have the same question as tempwli, though I am not non-profite. I need to redirect my old site to the new WordPress site, but I would like to keep my old website domain name.
