Changing Domains
-
Hello,
I have had a blog with WordPress for the past few months (dimibodimi.wordpress.com). I have just bought the dimibodimi.com domain and registered hosting through Bluehost. Through Bluehost I have also completed the 1-click installation to the site. My question is:
I have proceeded with the following direction (http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#how-to-change-your-name-servers) to forward my .wordpress domain to my .com. I would like to know which of logins these two domains I would use to update my blog?
My dream end result would be to simply take the content from the .wordpress site and transfer it to my .com whilst keeping my .com login and just redirecting .wordpress to .com.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Demetri

Hey there,
If you’d like to move your existing WordPress.com content to a WordPress.org blog, and setup a redirect so the old URLs point to the new, you’ll need to follow a few steps:
1) Transfer your WordPress.com blog to your WordPress.org install
2) Use the Site Redirect upgrade to redirect your old URLs to their new home. You’d then use the username and password you created with your WordPress.org blog to administer your content.
Please let me know if I can be of any further help.
Best,

Thanks pcrumm that is helpful.
Can you tell me if there is anyway that I can simply change the URL of my wordpress hosted blog to a bought domain.
i.e. keep http://www.dimibodimi.wordpress.com content but change the URL to http://www.dimibodimi.com?
I would then of course cancel the blog hosted at Bluehost?

Yes, that’s easy. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/ You don’t need to delete the old name, you just keep it and add the custom domain and set that as Primary.
