changing email address

I am trying to change my email address that is associated with my account. I have changed it in my account settings, but when I clink on the confirmation link in the email wordpress sends me, it takes me to my account settings page, and I cannot clink the save accounts setting button. It is not highlighted for me to click? What do I do to make this change permanent?

If you attempt to change your email address and find that it never updates after saving the changes, the issue is usually simple. The email address you are attempting to use is probably associated with another WordPress.com account. Because each address can only be associated with one WordPress.com account, it will not allow you to use the same email again.
The solution is also easy. You can use a different email address that is not already in use, or you can log in to the account currently using your desired email address and change it to something else. Once changed, you can then reuse the email on a different account.
If you requested the change but did not receive the email confirmation to finalize it (or the confirmation did not work), please contact Support.”
