Changing email address

I tried to change my account to my new email address. The site kept asking me over and over what my password was, never accepting any new password I gave it. It then changed my @name and now it is telling me I don’t have a WordPress site. How can I fix this?

  • Hi there,

The account you’re using to post here does not own any sites, was created three weeks ago, and has not been accessed since you created it until yesterday right before you posted this thread.

We don’t require a password in order to make an email change on a WordPress.com account, and I see no password, email or username change requests on this account, so I think you might be speaking of a self-hosted WordPress site.

Can you please tell me the address of the website, or the username of the account you’re trying to access? Also give the old and new email addresses involved so I can look them up in our system. Add each email on their own line and they’ll be hidden from public view.

My wordpress site is http://www.WalterNorvell.com. The username is @wnorvell. This is hosted by BlueHost. I think the old email on it is (email visible only to moderators and staff). This email address was so spammed that I had to close it. I want my new email (email visible only to moderators and staff) associated with that site.

The site I managed to create that I don’t want is @walterholmesnorvell. I think the (email visible only to moderators and staff) is associated with this site which is why I cannot change it on my wanted site.

Thank you so much for your help.

  • @walterholmesnorvell somehow this was re-added as needing help. I thought this might help as well.

If you’re trying to access your site via [your actual address]/wp-admin then you are likely using your own copy of WordPress, which would explain why your account for that installation isn’t working here.

Your host can likely help you with this, though:

If you need more help than that, please update us with a link to your site and we will point you in the right direction. Cheers :)

It looks like @walterholmesnorvell’s reply got caught in the forum spam filter. I’ve unspammed it.

That has to be done from inside that site’s WP-Admin ->Users ->Your profile. The login for the WP-Admin page on your site is completely separate and different from your WordPress.com account credentials.

Please see the link @supernovia posted above should you need to reset that password. You can ask in https://wordpress.org/support/ should you need any more help.

“walterholmesnorvell” is the username of the new WordPress.com account you created, and has nothing to do with your site. You also don’t have any sites at all in this WordPress.com account.

If you created this WordPress.com account in error, you can close it from https://wordpress.com/me/account/
