Changing email addressess

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I have changed my email address (to the email address I used to use as a secondary email). I tried to change it in my WP settings, but I believe I signed up awhile ago using that very email, with a different user name. I get a message saying, “That email is already in use.” I know it is, but I created an account using it, and I have no idea how to access that account. The email address under which I registered a long time ago is: (email visible only to moderators and staff). The email address that I’m currently registered under is, (email visible only to moderators and staff). I don’t use (email visible only to moderators and staff) anymore. Help! Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • So, the way to fix this is to gain access to your other (unused) wordpress.com account via this form http://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Once you have logged in to that account, you can change the email to something else. Which will then allow you to change the email on your current account to the email you want to use.

    Does that make sense?

Thank you, rootjosh. Yes, it does make sense. I went to the link you gave me, and it asked me if I wanted to reset my password, then sent a message to my email address.
The strangest thing is, the message says, “Someone recently requested that the password be reset for saltygoofyfoot.
To reset your password please click this button:
    Reset password”
Saltygoofyfoot is NOT my account! How did “saltygoofyfoot” get linked with my email address? BTW, when I did click the “reset password” button, it did not work.
Any input? This is very strange.

  • I am going to guess that someone mistyped in their email when creating an account and inadvertently entered yours.

What exactly happened when you clicked the reset password button?
