Changing email and access associated with existing site

    I have tried to change the email and login for one of my wordpress sites. I followed the instructions and went to account settings. However, while a link to access the site was sent to the new email address, when I try to use the new email address I get a message saying user not recognised. Can you tell me what I have done wrong and help?
