Changing Excerpt Length?

  I’m using some of the free themes (specifically Rebalance, but others have the same problem) and I want one that has a display image plus a short excerpt from the blog post. Some of them display the first few sentences, which is fine, but others display 2/3 of the blog post, making things severely unbalanced. Is there any way to make it so all the excerpts are small, or is that Premium only?
