Hi,
they all say to go to appearances, which is not on my customize page?
Appearance is an icon and category in the WP Admin sidebar under which links to various admin page fall in a drop-down menu, including Customize. So Customize is in Appearance, not the other way around.
How do I change the font colour I the oxygen theme…?
At Customize, click on the “Fonts” option. This will reveal two drop-down menus, labeled “Headings” and “Base Font.”

There is no option to change the font colour, however.
I would like to change the colour of the title font, as it can’t be read at the moment. How do I do that? -

Yes, sorry. I’ve unintentionally pointed you in the wrong direction. If there were options regarding text colour in the Oxygen customizer with the free plan, then it would be found at Customize > Colors & Backgrounds. But the options available there do not affect the text colour.
Therefore, to change the text colour would require Custom Design, a feature only available with the WordPress.com Premium and Business plans.
At Customize > Custom Design, there is a trial option which allows you to preview modifications made with this feature. Trial changes can not be saved.
