Changing font size and colors of template headers?
-
Anyway to change the font size of headers in templates? The font is quite small and light in color making it difficult to see very well – especially the sub-pages (children) which only show of course when you move the cursor over the parent pages. All the the more reason to make at least the parent pages more visible.
I like the clean style and 3-column of this template but might have to change if I can’t make the headers bigger.Unless I can find some custom header to upload…where could I find ones already laid out?
Also, if I do have to change templates will it mess up by hierarchy/formatting?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is a multiuser blogging platform. Every blog wearing the same theme is, in essence, using the same template. Any editing of the underlying template would affect all blogs wearing the same theme. Consequently, we cannot access template files let alone edit them; only Staff can.

If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.
Since there is no official Staff support for the CSS upgrade, and precious little Volunteer support, I recommend that you don’t buy the upgrade unless you have at least moderate understanding of HTML and CSS because you must be prepared to do the work on your own.
If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/
You haven’t provided a link to the blog in question or linked it to your username so we don’t have a clue which theme your blog is wearing. Linking your username to your blog is easy to do.
Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ and fill in the the complete URL for your wordpress.com blog starting with http:// and then save changes.
Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.
Note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Also note that when you mark a forum threads as “favorites” that you will find them listed on the forum profile page too. And everyone in the forum can access your forum profile by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username.

Okay, thanks for the tips on proper use of the forum. I appreciate it. Considering how much of a bother I’ve been, maybe I don’t want a complete record of every post I’ve made–in retrospect, some of them been rather hastily asked. :)

How hard is it to learn html and CSS–and would you recommend an inexpensive, fast yet good way to acquire these skills?
I do have someone who can provide some customization to my blog – I can’t imagine making a new header would take all that long, but the more i can do myself (I see now) the better it will be.

I think you should read the post I linked to in the other thread I just commented in first and get a feel for using the Structure theme effectively befor you start considering CSS upgrading, etc. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/05/01/introduction-to-structure/

CSS isn’t that hard. The main think you need to know and understand is the relationship between the markup (XHTML) and the CSS. That is the main thing. Then you can use some of the references found on the internet when you get stuck. There are only two of us with much CSS experience that volunteer here in the forums, so if you post questions to the CSS forum here, it might be 24 hours or so before one of use can get to your question.
You can also use the preview function on the CSS edit page to try out changes and such and get things figured out before you actually purchase the upgrade.
There are a number of sticky posts at the top of the CSS forum here with information on references and tutorials.
