Changing font size and font itself

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a personal account. I am working in Independent Publisher 2 theme. I maybe can’t get the typography option for changing font size and font? I have tried to “customize” in my left side bar under themes but not sure that is what does it? Doesn’t seem to affect the size and font when I start a new page. Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Hi there!

    Thanks for reaching out.

Your theme does offer several font options. To adjust the font on your site, you will want to head to the Customizer at My Site → Appearance → Customize → Fonts

I made you a video (from the Customizer) here for you to show you how to change the fonts on your site:

Make sure to save you changes after you adjust your font settings.

Let me know if you have any questions!

As always, thank you for your help. I didn’t realize that my fonts didn’t appear until I published the post! I do still wonder what the “typography thing” is!

on to my next question. I am attaching a screen shot of my first post and you can see that the title is not centred. I am a Type A personality and asymmetry drives me crazy! Can that be adjusted?

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure that I was able to find the post (shown in your screenshot) by taking a look at your site(s) directly. Can you share a link to the page you took that screenshot from so we can take a closer look?

    Thanks for the additional info!

Sorry. This is my new Blog/journal that I am now working on. Hope this is what you need?

Thanks for that! Post titles in WordPress are typically left-aligned, and changing that layout would require modifying the theme files, which would need access to the CSS editor on Premium and higher plans.

Upgrading would also give you access to priority email and live chat support instead of just the free support forums. You can view all the features Premium offers here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Let us know if you decide to upgrade, and we can help with the CSS you’d need to center those post and page titles.

Ahhh….yes, I understand now. Thank you. I would really like to know what “typography” is – inquiring minds need to know😁! Otherwise, I am now out of questions (for now🙄).

Oh dear – one more question! When I embed a Google Drive link, will people have to copy and paste the link to access it, or can they access right from my site?

  • Hi Nancy –

Folks will be able to click on, and access the link. They will not have to copy + paste it. It’s important that you make sure the settings on the Google Drive allow folks to access it too if that’s the plan.

I was so excited because I thought I had this all figured out BUT, I went to finish up everything and “things are not what they appear” with my site. I thought I had posted/published both of my pages in my blog but I can’t figure out where they are at. Here are screen shots of what I see. Now I am completely confused

  • Hi!

I thought I had posted/published both of my pages in my blog

Ah, I see the issue. There’s a difference between pages and posts. Your blog needs posts, but you’ve made pages instead. Pages are good for stuff like a contact form. Posts are good for articles/journal entries/news. No worries, though. You can copy and paste those over.

If you’re comfortable working in more than one tab, try this:

    1. Start with your pages. Tap the three dots next to one of them, and choose edit.
    2. From the page editing screen, tap the three dots in the upper right. Choose “Copy all blocks.”
    3. Start a new post here.
    4. Paste, using ⌘+v
    5. You can refine the post settings if you’d like: you may want to adjust the title, and add a featured image if you’d like. You can add tags and whatnot, or even back-date the post if you want to. Then publish.

Now, that post will be on the blog. Repeat with any other pages that should be posts.

YAY!! I have officially “done it all”. Thank you all for your guidance through this. I am so glad I stayed with WordPress.com! I know the goal is to have paid plans but even though I don’t have one, you have been incredibly helpful with rapid replies that answered all of my questions. When I start with my next travel journal/blog in a year and have forgotten everything I have learned this year, I promise that I will refer back to all of my wonderful posts with you guys before I bother you!
