Changing fonts

I have not purchased an upgrade, yet I now seem to have the ability to select different fonts for headings and text in the customizer. Is this a new free feature?

Hi agj3240,
The Custom Fonts feature is added by default. If you’d like more information about Custom Fonts you can read about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-fonts/
Hope this helps!

@agj3240 – last summer WordPressdotcom added the ability to select and use a set of free Google fonts to our themes. You can find them in the Customizer. Here’s the announcement about that: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/free-google-fonts/ (If you aren’t already subscribed to the WordPressdotcom News Blog, you might want to consider signing up.)
The Custom Fonts upgrade that @johndcoy pointed you to is part of the Premium or Business bundles and gives you access to an additional set of fonts from Adobe TypeKit in the Customizer.
Hope that helps!

Folks: apologies for my shameless jumping on to this thread, but it’s clearly in the same territory as my query, to which I think I already know the answer, but it would be good to have confirmed by more experienced heads than mine..
I’ve been demo’ing a site rewrite, using ‘TwentyTen’ theme, to the site sponsor, who now wants to know if they can change the font type and colour for individual blocks of text. I don’t think this is possible (-I’m not sure it’s desirable either, but am trying to be accommodating !) under the free plan, and that one can only set a base Heading and Text font, and resize them.
However, before I jump and buy the ‘premium’ plan, is it possible to have the multiple fonts / font-styles that they desire ? Thanks.

.. I might add that I am sure it can be achieved using HTML rather than the ‘Visual’ tab .. but the sponsor doesn’t want to use HTML !

@robswydd – Buying the Premium plan also gives you the ability to edit an existing theme’s CSS. So, technically, it might be possible with classes.
If this is of interest, you might want to post a question in the CSS Customization forum https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
Also, if you look at the Post or Page Visual Editor, you’ll see that there are ways to add color to the theme’s default fonts right there https://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#text-color
