Changing Footer Background Color

  • Unknown's avatar

    I know that WordPress.com footers must include attrition links (as much as I would like to delete them), but is it possible to change the background color? My theme default color is a light grey and I want to change it to white so that it matches the background of the individual pages. (I have a premium account and can customize CSS but am not quite sure how to.) Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Could you try the following CSS:

    #site-generator {{
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #ffffff;
    }

    You should add this in the CSS Editor.

    Also it might be good idea to post CSS related questions in the CSS Customization area of the forums. :-)

    Please let me know how it goes.

  • Sorry, I messed up the formatting and I had unwanted extra {.

    Please use the following corrected CSS.

    #site-generator {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #ffffff;
    }

    Thank you so much!

    I apologize if I posted this question in the wrong place — at the top of my screen it reads “WordPress.com Forums » CSS Customization.” Sorry for the trouble.

    One follow-up question, if you don’t mind —

    I figured out how to add copyright text to the footer (!) but I want it on a separate line, either above or below the attrition links.

    Is there a way to add a line break to the custom CSS?

    Hello!

    WordPress has Terms of service regarding the attrition at the bottom

    11. Attribution. Automattic reserves the right to display attribution links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com,’ theme author, and font attribution in your blog footer or toolbar. Footer credits and the WordPress.com toolbar may not be altered or removed regardless of upgrades purchased.

    I am not sure if that applies to changing the color or adding additional text in the blog footer

    Thanks, pcosta.

    On WordPress FAQ, it states:

    “Please do not hide or alter text or links for the footer credits or the toolbar. Modifying the style of the footer text (i.e. colors and font size) is fine as long as it’s still readable. Using CSS, you can also add content like a copyright notice to the existing footer.”

    I believe that the changes I am making (or attempting to make) don’t violate the TOS in this case.

    You should be fine just adding text to the footer in the way you’ve currently done. I’ve seen staff assist in doing the same thing here on the forums so as things stand you shouldn’t be breaking the TOS because you’re not removing or making the existing attribution links illegible.

    Here’s what to swap your current declaration to in order to have it appear on a new line under the existing footer content:

    #colophon div:after{
      content:" © 2014 Hannah Rubenstein.  All rights reserved.";
      display:block;
    }

    Thanks, hallluke. When I cut-and-paste that text into the CSS editor, the copyright disappears. Am I missing something?

    You should just be able to switch that line back to what you were using before when it was working, the important change to get it to move to a new line is the display:block; bit.
