Changing Footer for WordPress.com Free Theme
-
I’d like to remove the footer (Harmonic Theme, by WordPress.com) for my site on wordpress.com, but it does not look like wordpress.com is giving me the option to do so, moreover I am unable to edit the HTML/CSS via my free account. Does anyone know what can be done about this? I don’t mind paying a bit more to have that removed from my site permanently.
Additionally, I’d like to add a “Subscribe to Mailing List” widget to my site, but am also unable to find such a widget for the free version to place on my site. Any help is appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot remove the WordPress links in your footer; even the $30,000 a year VIP blogs must display it.
To edit the CSS of the blog, you will need the paid upgrade, which is part of the $99 bundle.
The widget you’re looking for is the Follow widget, also called the Subscribe widget.

Though removing footer credit links, which leads to the untrue assumption that you designed the theme and are hosting it is not allowed, it’s possible to add your own text to the footer area using CSS if you have purchased the Premium bundle of upgrades containing the Custom Design upgrade. Then you can include styling credit if you have done any unique styling and/or include a copyright notice.

Added info:
If all you want to include is a copyright many bloggers do that by including a copyright notice in a text widget.
