Changing free templates

I recently changed my template to Gateway and was amazed that most of my information migrated to the new template, but it is not looking at all like the Gateway template. The reason I picked it was for the 3 most recent posts to be on the home page with images, with my intro? Why does it look like my old one, with all blog posts on the blog page? I am a newbie and thought maybe I can’t have the image of the sunset quote and the 3 boxes all on the home page? Please advise, I tried for hours to figure this out? I am in a course which ends in a week and want to have a layout I am visually happy with, currently there are not enough images on this one, the way it is displaying? Please help!

To get the same look as the preview theme you’ll have to follow the guide that’s shown on the Gateway theme page at https://wordpress.com/theme/gateway
For the three post to display check out the Featured Content section on the Gateway theme page as well as this support page on Featured Content
