Changing free WordPress domain
-
Can I map one free wordpress domain to another free wordpress domain? I want to change the domain name of my site to another I already have on wordpress.com. I want to change from lawlessalibris.wordpress.com to b2f2.wordpress.com. If I can’t, can I just change the URL to a new free domain?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Is the blog to which you want to move empty? If so you can simply transfer your content from the one to the other and if you have any followers you can either ask staff to move them for you or you can invite them as followers from the other blog’s dashboard. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/
Or you can change the URL if you want, but don’t delete the old URL – once deleted you’ll never be able to get it back. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

I want to change luvthosedividends to lovethosedividends. Can I do this without changing anything else? Or could I add the new name as a secondary name that would point to the original? I really do not want to change anything else, just the name.

Changing the blog URL doesn’t change anything else, though if any of your readers have your blog bookmarked in their browsers or are following your RSS feed they will still end up on the old site, so it might be a good idea to publish a message there that your address has changed once you’ve done it. As far as I know, your regular wordpress.com and email followers will not even be aware of the change. Carefully read the support doc and all warning messages that appear during the change. http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Also, as I advised liblawlessa, don’t delete the old URL. It’s always good to have an extra blog to use as a test blog or a backup to your regular blog. You can rather set it to private once all your readers have been made aware of the change.

Hi, I was thinking of doing basically the same – moving from chaari.wordpress.com to nubuikuduchi.wordpress.com. All I want to change is the URL – I want all my past posts, my archives, to be exactly as they are, as if they had been posted on the nubuikuduchi site all along.
Will this “transfer my blog” process, or the Export/Import process, do that for me? I’m just afraid of going through with it not knowing if it’s going to leave me with a blank/empty new-looking blog, and all my previous posts in just some jumbled up “files.”
Thanks much!

Thanks for the help and quick response. I am confused on this:
As far as I know, your regular wordpress.com and email followers will not even be aware of the change.
Are the followers automatically ‘converted’ to the new URL? It would appear they would still remain with the old site. I need to study the directions more closely before changing.

If you transfer the content as described in the above support doc it stays exactly the same. Posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, everything will transfer just as it is.Media files should as well but you should check afterwards that they did all transfer. Don’t delete media files from the old blog until you’re sure they are all on the new one.
The only thing that won’t transfer is the theme and any customisation like custom headers and backgrounds, etc. Those you have to add to the new blog yourself.

I’m not 100% sure about this. I’m guessing because you’re changing to a new URL that might happen, but I could be wrong. In any event, staff can also do that for you. After you’ve made the move, create a new thread requesting that your followers be moved from one blog to the other. Be sure to include the active URLs of both blogs (starting with http://) and include the tag, “modlook”. Then wait for staff to get back to you.
Still publish a message informing them of the change, just as a backup.
