Changing from subdomain to own domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

A few questions if you can help.

I have a free account, but I’m thinking of upgrading to Personal so I can use a domain name I already own.

In the price plans, does Free Domain For One Year mean free domain mapping for one year? And what is the current price for a domain mapping subscription (which I assume is in addition to the annual fee for the plan I choose)?

And are people redirected to the new domain name if they type the current one which will then no longer be in use. And in future is it possible to stop using my own domain and go back to using a subdomain of wordpress.com?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

In the price plans, does Free Domain For One Year mean free domain mapping for one year?

Yes that’s correct, and it’s the first year of domain mapping/registrations that’s included with the paid plan.

And what is the current price for a domain mapping subscription (which I assume is in addition to the annual fee for the plan I choose)?

If the domain is registered with another provider, it can be mapped to WordPress.com for free, if the site has a plan. Outside of that it’s $13 per year.

Please note, that in order to set a primary domain, the site must have a paid plan.

And are people redirected to the new domain name if they type the current one which will then no longer be in use

Yes they are, this happens automatically.

And in future is it possible to stop using my own domain and go back to using a subdomain of wordpress.com?

    Yes this is also possible.

    I hope this helps.
