Changing from wordpress.com to wordpress.org but already purchased a domain

    Hello!

I currently have littlegirlbigeyes.com on wordpress.com (free version) but have purchased the domain months ago. I want to expand my options and am looking to move my site to a web host (like Dreamhost) with the free WordPress.org download. However I do not want my littlegirlbigeyes.com site and all its previous posts to be deleted. Will they automatically be transfered to the new web hosted site (whose domain will remain the same) or do I have to do something to transfer it all.

I’ve heard of “mapping” but is that necessary if my domain is to stay the same? Thanks!

P.S i have not signed up for a webhost yet but am preparing to soon

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No content is automatically transferred and yes you can keep your domain and map it to the new install very easily.

You can either move all your content into a self hosted WordPress.org install after you hire a web host and upload a theme and plugins by yourself.
    export
    import
    export/import links
copy and past text widget content to move it
    Then update the nameservers:

The nameservers control where traffic for the domain goes using DNS. If you are moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you can enter the nameservers provided by your web hosting company to switch your domain to their hosting service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

Or you can purchase a guided transfer and have staff so it for you.

If you are an experienced WordPress.com software user, and have the skill sets required to set up and manage your own self hosted WordPress.org install then the instructions for making the move are easy to follow. But if you are not skilled at WordPress.com blogging, and also lack the skill sets required to self host your own WordPress.org install then acquiring those skills first is recommended.

You will be responsible for all upgrades, installations, backups and troubleshooting. I

For self-hosting figure an average monthly total cost (including cost of a domain name) of about $10 to $25 generally, but that all depends on storage and bandwidth requirements.

Most bloggers I know that take this route to make money via advertising do not make much more than their hosting and domain registration costs.

It is so tempting to do a guided tour but I can’t see myself paying $119 for it. I am just worried that I will mess it up!

I do want to put ads on my blog, however, the main reason I want to switch to WordPress.org is because I want to create an online store for my handmade jewelry and connect it to my blog. Ideally I would like to keep both the store and blog on the same domain (littlegirlbigeyes.com) having the store be a separate page. But I’m not sure if that is possible so I am willing to change the blog to blog.littlegirlbigeyes.com <– I am sure that also costs money.

I found this tutorial and am hoping to do this once I switch to WordPress.org

Do you think I’m going in the right direction?
