Currently, it seems that your site is on WordPress.com free plan. In order to change the background color behind the menu to an image, you’ll need to make use of Custom CSS which is a feature of WordPress.com Premium, Business and eCommerce plans.
Hope this helps!

@raunaqchawhan this site is actually one of our business plans.
@paulm26b402cc3c you’re welcome to reach out directly at https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ going forward, but we might be able to help with this. Can you link to the image you’d like to use as your background? -
I posted the link in the first post but here it is: https://ibb.co/Gtq3zLj
am i supposed to use a specific type of link?

Is it https://i.ibb.co/cCjX4Hd/mw-joomla-logo.png ?
I guess the reason we didn’t notice earlier is because it’s far too small to be a background image for the theme you’re using.
Per https://wordpress.com/theme/professional-business it’s recommended to use an image that is at least 2000px wide by 1200px high.
The one you’ve listed is only 450px wide x 75px high.

My bad @supernovia. I thought
paulm26b402cc3cis a subdomain onwpcomstaging.comand got an impression of this being a site on a free plan. Just learnt the fact from another forum post that this is a staging site before the site is made live by setting the primary domain at https://wordpress.com/domains/manage. Will keep this in mind next time.
