Changing Header Image
-
I am still just trying to set up my site and I do not like the ‘city’ image that automatically comes with the theme/design I chose. I have tried a gazillion times to change the Header image to a photo that I took myself and uploaded. As far as I can tell, I have done everything correctly but it just WILL NOT swap out that ‘stock’ city image for my own photo. Help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I can see that the header image has changed on your site’s pages, but not the Homepage.
If you haven’t done so already, maybe take a look at the section covering the Homepage Template on this page: https://wordpress.com/themes/gateway/ to make sure you are setting it up right. Especially where you have to set a featured image for the header area, and setting the front page as a ‘static’ page.
Also be sure to save your edits before closing out the customizer when customizing your theme.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for pitching in @quitevisiblestudio. :)
@teresam61: It’s possible to “override” the header image by uploading a featured image to an individual post/page with Gateway. The city image is currently set as a featured image on the home page of your site, which is why it’s overriding the set header image.
To change the featured image on that page, first navigate to the page’s editor and then select the featured image module to the left. You can either remove the featured image to default back to the header image or upload a new one.
Further guidance, including a video walkthrough for uploading a featured image, can be found here:
Let me know if that helps out or if you have any extra questions.

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately I seem to still be hitting a “brick wall” in getting the Home page the way I want it. I’m about to throw in the towel ! But I have wanted to start a blog for years….. So…. I guess I’ll keep at it a bit longer. I THINK I finally got the image I want to appear on he Home page but now I cannot find any place that will allow me to change the COLOR of my Title and Tagline to white so that you can actually see them against the trees in my photo!!!

Good job sticking with it so far, @teresam61.
Unless you have a Premium Plan that allows for some deeper customization, ( https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/ ) there’s not too much that can be done with the Title and Tagline font colors.
But go ahead and give this a try…
In the Customizer there is a ‘colors and backgrounds’ section that provide a few ‘featured palettes’ that you can choose from.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-colors/One or more of these selections will show a white/light Title and Tagline that is designed for darker backgrounds.
Click on each one to see which palette works best for your design, especially the Title and Tagline area. Once you have selected a palette, the option to change the background color is also available.
Hopefully, this will get you close enough to the design you have in mind.

@quitevisiblestudio has it exactly right. :) Try experimenting with the colour palettes and let us know how you get on, @teresam61.

Hello,
We’ve been trying to change our homepage picture on the gateway theme for erm a couple of hours.
We can easily change the header pages but not the homepage.
Can someone help us?

Have you attempted to remove or change the existing featured image on the home page? Steps for doing that can be found here:
If you have extra questions on that then please feel free to start a new thread on this forum here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes#postform
It’s easier for us to keep up with different support threads when they’re kept to different threads and also means that the original poster won’t continue to receive email notifications for separate questions.
Thanks!
