Changing header settings
-
I am trying to add a custom header to my blog, but when I upload it, it is too big for the dimensions given. I saved the header smaller and it is still appears too big.
Can you you only edit the CSS if you buy the upgrade? I tried editing the header in the stylesheer but the cursor won’t appear so I can change it. Help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You need to crop and resize the image to the size needed by the theme you are using. That size is typically listed on the custom header page under appearance. Size the image to those exact dimensions and then upload it. Also make sure it is saved as a jpg, gif, or png.

The average time it takes to get a response to an issue posted to a blogging forum is 11 – 13 hours. Here at wordpress.com we best that for sure but we Volunteers (fellow bloggers) do ask that members are patient when waiting for answers, and that they do not start duplicate threads on the same issue. I have answered you in the other thread you postsed > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/changing-header-size-1?replies=2

Actually, I just did that, and it still crops my header. I cannot drag the box all the way over, so it cuts off a small portion of the header. I saved it jpeg and changed the dimensions and they read 740 px X 171 px (the second one changes once I change the first). I am not understanding what I am doing wrong.

I clicked that link and I am viewing an empty blog with the default theme Kubrick. Let’s be clear on this. Do you wish to use that theme? If so then there is a Kubrick header generator here. > http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/blogheader.php

Yes I was thinking to use that theme, just with my own header. I have made the header smaller in Photoshop, where I designed it, and just went to that generator, but it centered the header because it was too big. I am not trying to have someone do this for me, I am just trying to understand why it isn’t working. Extremely frustrating.

You are not using the correct size.
Kubrick 740 pixels x 192 pixels

HI, I have the same problem. I’m using the Vigilance theme (my blog is still empty, I’m using a trial header, created, and the cropped in wordpress, but I’d like to change it) – and I created a strip, what I would like to use as a header. I already resized it in 2-3 programs, used the same properties, as it given for Vigilance theme (920×180) – but when I upload the picture, the program still shows, that I should crop it. How I can use the whole picture – not to cropping it any more in wordpress???
Thanx for your support!

The cropping is glitchy, as you have noticed. Try adding a border or something around your image so you can crop those out.

Thank you for the tip! I’ll find out how to make a frame, or something around the image.
-
You should be able to do it using basic image software like http://picnik.com which is free

Thanks, I’ll try it, when I’ll have more time to make experiments :-) Now (for a while) I’ve fixed the problem, but I’ll return to this argument, because it’s far from perfect.

ehungarian I am glad I am not the only one having this problem. Still having problems, hoping my boss can remember what she did for our past blogs, since she had made headers in the same program before and didn’t have a problem.

@spzs
If you are still having the header resizing problem, please contact us at:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contactWe can take a close look into it.

We figured it out. We were making the template bigger in InDesign and so we just did trial and error until the header would fit the fixed-width headers in the themes. There has to be an easier way, but for now this will work.

I have never had the prblems you experienced with this header. I do not rely on the wordpress.com cropper and I do not rely on using wordpress.com to resize any images for me. The result of doing so a few times was frustration and poor image quality.I don’t have any sophisticated photoshop trpe programs, etc. I simply use Paint and free online image editing programs. When I upload images they are already the size I want them to be so the wordpress cropper is not a factor.
I see you have switched the the Greenery them on that blog and that you have a 404 (page not found) on your front page. This happened because you deleted the “Hello wordl!” placeholder post. Not to worry because as soon as you publish a post it will be gone. http://en.support.wordpress.com/not-found/

I am using the Vigilance theme and want to add a third link at the top of the page (next to “Home” and “About” directing people to my external website. I also want to change “Home” to say “Blog Home”. I have purchased the CSS editor but can’t seem to figure out how to make this happen.

Thanks for the help.
