Changing Host from wordpress.com to Host Gator
-
I’m having trouble moving my domain name “www.andrewanisi.com” that I purchased at wordpress.com over to Host Gator. The instructions I found on WP don’t seem to work? Does anyone else have a clue of how to do this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have exactly the same problem. Where did you even find the instructions? I’ll try them and see what happens.
-
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/ it’s been disabled for quite some time now.

I bought the $17 web hosting package from WP, then found that my site url would be: [domain name].wordpress.com, which I did NOT want. So I checked whosis and saw I owned the domain name, and thus signed up to HostGator and loaded WP via fantastico. Then when I tried to log in to the admin cp I was redirected from http://%5Bdomain name].com/wp-admin to
http://%5Bdomain name].wordpress.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F[domain name]bcookart.wordpress.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1
I assume this is because both WP and HostGator are hosting my site. If you find an answer to your question it may answer mine as well.

Yes, I hope someone replies to this. WP.com isn’t as good as the WP.org software. More options regarding design and plugins.

I too bought the domain on WP thinking I would be able to add meta and seo to it. Not. I am trying to transfer my domain now over to godaddy but do not know how. GD said to look for info on “name server”. I did but it doesn’t seem to make sense or match up to where I am at. Following in hope this gets answered.

Tried that. Doesn’t work. Can’t find Domain Administration in that section of the store menu.
-
Go to settings > domains and see if it is there. Staff are rearranging some things and I don’t think everything is rearranged yet.
-
No luck there either. Yeah, noticed the changes over the past couple weeks. They make it a mission to change your host!
-
I got it!! I got to step 4 but I guess I need to open account with GD before I go further. Not sure what choice I want “I have a hosting account” or “specific nameservers”?
-
See my post “Deleting WP as Host”. I followed the directions and they worked.
TYVM to thesacredpath for help.

Yes, you will have to have a web host, and it is best to wait till after they get the account set up and you get the welcome email with all the information in it including the nameserver stuff. Then you can make the change.
@vbriancook, you are welcome.

I don’t have ANYTHING in my Dashboard area called Domain Administration as stated in the instructions.
